And it seems much too big, too scary – and way too difficult. Might ever look impossible. It may even be the last thing you would want to do.
When an inner voice generates this kind of energy, it is most likely the call of Spirit.
This is a deep and profound calling towards a spiritual path.
Our call cannot be denied, although we may do our best to put it off through distractions and staying busy.
But, not to worry. It hasn’t been banished. It just lies in wait, always following us, lurking around ready to jump out at any moment.
That’s why it is referred to as the “hounds of heaven.”
Denial of it doesn’t really work, as it’s here, within us.
For this we have been born.
I felt this powerful call the moment I held my first-born in my arms. Today is her birthday and I am reliving this powerful moment. It was my summons into a larger life.
She looked up at me with her oh so innocent eyes that silently asked, beseeched me, with a question. “What do I need to know about life?”
I felt a voice coming from a profound love that I had never experienced before. It said, “You must find answers for this precious being.”
And I knew I had no choice. This was a must.
I answered that call.
This was my summons which led me on a path with many crooked places, some very deep pits, as well as overflowing joy and happiness.
But from her birth I knew I must explore and continue seeking until I could share some answers with this treasured being, my new daughter. Obviously I needed wisdom that I presently didn’t have.
Thus began my real studies, beginning with reading the Bible with great intention. Soon after I found a Unity Church.
Mt present superficial way of life was set aside, which was more than confusing to my husband, an Air Force pilot, bent on flying exotic missions and partying hard in between.
It ultimately led us both into a deep discovering of what intimate relationship truly meant, and transformed our lives in so many beautiful ways.
During the next fifteen years I birthed three more amazing children while continuing my studies, taking innumerable classes and workshops.
This eventually led me into the Unity Ministry which exposed me to ever wider paths.
This is an exploration that never ends. Through betrayals, mis-communications, heartbreak, disease and death it continues to draw me forward, step by step.
About twenty-five years ago I was led into the path of Buddhism which helped develop the practice of Insight Meditation and lovingkindness.
Also my long study of Jungian psychology has enriched this never ending journey.
Help people to love. This is my purpose. It’s as simple as that, and as complex.
In order to help others I must learn how to love myself. Not an easy task.
What is your purpose? Have you also felt a voice that won’t leave you alone?
Have you listened to that inner voice?
Perhaps you haven’t been ready to give yourself over to it yet, but it’s only a matter of time. This voice knows where you live.
And it doesn’t much care how it wakes you up.
The summons comes in many, many forms and continually lures us onward. It may come as a disease, a great love, betrayal, death, a knock on the head or whatever else stops you in your tracks!
As a wise Native American elder once said, “If you don’t follow your purpose you will have big heap trouble.”
He didn’t add that even when you are following it, you still have big heap trouble. The difference is that the joy that comes with it outweighs the struggles.
For it aligns you with a benevolent God, Original Presence — the very energy of love. This love contains you and guides you.
As you walk this path, a deep satisfaction fills you, comforts you and carries you along.
The Force is strong!
