Even when we might think we are in control, in all probability we will come to the realization that our sense of control was pretty much a childhood fantasy.
That is a very sobering thought.
And many of us have come to the place where we realize just how many forces outside our control, subtle and not so subtle, are at work every instant.
The present circumstances are formed from invisible currents of energy consisting of all thoughts and emotions. Every being on this planet contributes to this thought stream that is connecting all of us.
So, of course we don’t know what is going to happen next, or how long anything will last. How do we know what others are thinking, or feeling?
We might ask ourselves if we really signed up for this.
Maybe we did, but can you remember doing so? I can’t.
But here we are — and this is what we have to deal with — uncertainty and ambiguity.
Dr. James Hollis, a Jungian psychologist, has made it clear that as very young children we all discover that the real authorities in our lives are way bigger than we are.
Though we feel outweighed with our smallness and overwhelmed with the largeness of everything around us, deal with it we must.
But there is still good news.
Though we don’t really have control, we are not victims!
We make choices — continuously as a matter of fact — with our every thought and intention.
And that makes all the difference.
We can choose how to respond in every circumstance every minute of the day.
We can choose to find innovative ways of resolving old issues.
We can stop. We can pray. We can listen. We can try out new words and ideas. We can love.
Our response changes things. As quantum science has proved, we are not just observers. We are participators!
Our every thought and emotion touches this invisible energy and forms matter.
At every step on our journey we are actually choosing which direction our path will take.
And we don’t know what is around the next bend.
Yes, there is uncertainty and ambiguity. Can we live with that?
Well, if not, we’d better find another world, because the one we reside in right now comes with these features.
We are a being who has the God given ability to choose to awaken to what is never lost, our Indwelling Spirit.
And to share our gifts of love.
Our choices become our path.
And the grace of God is always here for us, no matter where we are on that path.
We find our power through our choices. We can always choose anew.
It’s a pretty good world after all!
Thank you, God.
