In extreme moments, everyone turns to some sort of prayer.
There are as many forms of prayer as there are people. There are millions who pray often, day in and day out.
Prayer can be thoughts that connect us to that which is higher and more divine than our usual stream of consciousness.
Or prayer can be ritualistic, such as repeating specific phrases. Some people use prayer beads. Some use spontaneous words that arise from their hearts, moment by moment.
Many people pray for things, such as a new car or a new relationship. Some pray for healing or more money. These types of prayer expect a certain outcome.
But I believe in prayer that gives ourselves to the divine energy of love. This is unconditional. We give the results to God. We open to the Divine Mystery.
As I pray, I simply give way to the great mystery of life that draws each of us higher and higher, surrendering into this mystery, giving up my ideas about what should be done.
I allow the divine mystery to reveal the next step. I trust the divine mystery, while knowing that I must take action steps also. I have my part in prayer.
I am reminded of Dr. Albert Schweitzer’s profound words:
“The hardest thing I ever did was to follow the guidance
I received during prayer.”
Most importantly, I don’t expect any specific results. I have thought about my desired outcome, I have released these thoughts into the great beyond.
Then I simply relax… release any tension or tightness in my body… and enjoy what is.
What is is reality. What is is trustable. I don’t need to try to make something happen, for I know I am connected to all that is. I trust this Divine Energy to evolve, just as it has for the last 14 billion years. Complexity is growing. Compassion, too, is growing as we acknowledge the truth that all life is connected.
For now, we know the internet and the web connects us all, but we don’t know the future. Whatever it is now, it will change.
I believe that, in time, we will discover what has always been the truth — there are no separate beings. We are connected heart and soul to one another. What happens to one of us happens to all of us, whether we are aware of this or not.
Each of us shapes the future.
I pray that we become aware of the lovingkindness that flows through our hearts and minds, continuously and always.
I pray to be open to the great power of truth, beauty and goodness, and to allow it to guide my actions.
I open to the Divine Mystery and trust it to guide each of us.
