WHERE IS THIS LEADING ME?

“Where is this leading me?” is an important question to ask when we get thrown off our ego-charted course as challenging events happen. And they do – and they will.

But every event is a doorway into something new which Spirit is guiding us into. For our soul has only one purpose: to grow us spiritually as we evolve and deepen our inner connection to the Divine.

Still, it usually seems like an affront when life disrupts our plans. How could it betray us like that?! After all, we had dreams, goals and expectations. That’s why, from the human ego’s point of view, spiritual progress can be described as “one insult after another.”

Why? Because nothing is permanent! Instead, change is taking place each moment as life expands into something new moment by moment. And this is where personal choice comes in. While I don’t know what the future holds, I do know that the direction I head is up to me.

My job is to ask for help being guided in the direction I need to go. I pause, I consciously breathe several deep breaths, and then use the path of lovingkindness to re-direct me into true safety and ease.

I speak these words with deep intention, “May I be safe. May I be happy. May I be healthy. May I live in ease and kindness.”

For these are the directions in which I desire to go!

So where is this moment leading me?

Something eventually arises. A small idea perhaps, but I follow. It may be as simple as answering an email or taking a walk. And by following this little thread, it leads me to the next.

I find solace in the following poem by William Stafford:

                            The Thread

There’s a thread you follow. It goes among
things that change. But it doesn’t change.
People wonder about what you are pursuing.
You have to explain about the thread.
But it is hard for others to see.
While you hold it, you can’t get lost.
       Tragedies happen; people get hurt
or die; and you suffer and get old.
Nothing you do can stop time’s unfolding.
You don’t ever let go of that thread.

A thread arises. It is small perhaps. And it is fragile, as all beginnings are, but it calls you. It asks you to follow it.

In lovingkindness,
Rev. Billie
